031712 Senators vs Maple Leafs, Ottawa, ON

Posted by

On March 17th, 2012 I went to see the Ottawa Senators take on the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Palladium, though you would never know it by looking through my ticket stub album.  Unfortunately I ended up with stupid print-at-home non-tickets again (which include a “convenience fee” that is utterly absurd both in name and substance.  Printing tickets at home is no more convenient than having tickets arrive in the mail, in fact it’s even less so, and charging the end-user a fee for doing something that was formerly done for them?  Well, it’s simply inexcusable).

And yet the ticket companies get away with these sorts of things with impunity.  “If you don’t like it you can just stay home,” seems to be the general sentiment.  Sigh.

Anyway, I walked into the Ottawa rink after scanning my stupid print-at-home piece of paper, wearing my Sens jersey in support of the home team and I soon found myself completely surrounded by Leafs jerseys.  Even though the Sens returned to the NHL twenty years before, whenever the Leafs (or the Habs) are in town you’d swear the Senators were the visiting team.  Toronto and Montreal have such hardcore fans – and so many of them – they easily outnumber and out-cheer the Sens crowd, and it can get pretty darn frustrating.

Especially when the Senators lose.  Very especially.

I’m not sure which fans I dislike more.  The Toronto fans are unquestionably more obnoxious – it’s no contest really – but wow, do I hate it when the Canadiens fans sing That Song.  But like I said this game was against Toronto so I spent the night surrounded by loudmouthed blue-shirted boobies.  And to make matters much, much worse the Sens lost 3-1.

Clearly this empty space in my ticket album is rife with strife.
