092609 The Tragically Hip, Ottawa, ON

September 26th, 2009 was the first in a three-night run for The Tragically Hip at Ottawa’s National Arts Centre.  Aside from the huge bonus of not having to drive all the way out to the Corel Centre (or Scotiabank Place, or Canadian Tire Centre, or whatever the heck they were calling the ugly hockey arena outside of town that week) it was a treat to have the band playing a multi-night stand in a relatively small venue.

For some reason I had tickets to the first two nights.  Though I think many people would find that a bit strange it’s amusing that there are two reasons people might find it odd.  I’m guessing some would wonder why I wanted to see the same band two nights in a row, while the right-thinking crowd might understandably ponder why I didn’t have tickets for all three nights.  I still don’t know why I didn’t have tickets for all three nights.  I must have had a gig or something.

Anyways, it was a really, really great concert, from the New Orleans Is Sinking show opener(!) to the mini-acoustic set (including the excellent Fiddler’s Green), there were rockers and classics and great new songs and all of it in a nice soft-seat theatre just a few kilometres from my home.  Thugs, Courage, Yer Not The Ocean, Bobcaygeon, Nautical Disaster…you’re not going to have a bad time at a show like this.

And neither am I.  It was awesome.
