062406 The Allman Brothers Band, Niagara Falls, ON

June 24th, 2006 was my second of two nights seeing the Allman Brothers at Fallsview Casino, a surprise show for me having bought tickets for a bargain outside of the concert at the very last minute.  I had only intended to attend one show but the first night was so, so great that I felt compelled to part with a small chunk of the previous night’s roulette winnings and throw down for another night with m’lady and the Allman Brothers.

The Fallsview Casino has a nice venue for concerts, and though my view from the balcony the previous night was much better, my seat at this show near the back of the floor was fine.  It’s the Allman’s so everyone was standing up the whole time anyway.

Though there’s no denying the might of Warren Haynes, I’m a Derek Trucks man.  The guy just keeps getting better and better all the time, showing off a serious Indian raga influence in his playing.  Gregg Allman was having a petty good night too but overall the concert didn’t live up to the raucous time they had the night before.

No matter, overall it was a solid show and a good time was certainly had by all, and combined with the juggernaut they threw down on Friday night I was now firmly back on the Allman train and was henceforth ecstatic to bow down at the altar of the Allman Brothers every chance I got.

After the concert I hit the tables a bit but mostly we just took in the atmosphere of the whole place.  The view of the LED-lit Niagara Falls from the terrace of the casino after the concert was nothing short of magnificent.  One of the world’s biggest waterfalls (depending on how you measure it), right there!  Canada is a cool country.

The next day we were tired but still made a heck of a showing in the tourist department, playing dinosaur mini-golf, riding the rides, and even getting soaked from the deck of the Maid of the Mist.  It was a long quiet ride home.
